Anonymized case study
Rules-based decision-support tool
Dispatchers calculated time windows from printed tables and complex location-specific rules.
Work shown is anonymized to protect the organizations involved.
01 / Context
The setting
An operations organization used reference data and location-specific rules to calculate time windows for dispatch decisions.
02 / Challenge
What needed to change
Dispatchers manually looked up printed tables and applied complex rules. Time windows could cross midnight, adding another detail to check.
03 / What I built
The implementation
I built a web tool that pulls live NOAA tide and current predictions and selects the correct reference station.
Configurable location-specific rules calculate the windows, including those that cross midnight. Proposed times can be checked against the results.
Print and copy output make the result usable in the existing workflow. Human review stays built in by design.
04 / Results
What the work made possible
The tool turns a manual, multi-step lookup into a guided, consistent calculation. It supports the dispatcher’s review rather than making the operational decision.
